CertainTeed Windows & Doors: The Riverside Owner’s Guide

If you’re staring at a CertainTeed window that won’t lock, a sash that’s dropped in its frame, or a patio door that drags against the track, here’s the short version: we stock and install CertainTeed-compatible replacement hardware and full window and door units across Riverside, with window replacement typically running $4,500 – $15,000 installed and individual parts like balances, locks, and rollers often falling in the $75 – $400 range depending on the series and what failed. Most homeowners don’t notice a window part wearing out until it announces itself – a lock that suddenly won’t throw, a window that slams shut on its own, or a door you now have to shoulder open. The good news with CertainTeed products is that the parts are identifiable and replaceable without a full window tear-out more often than people expect.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

CertainTeed has put its name on a few different window and door lines over the years, and the replacement part you need depends on which one you have. The Bryn Mawr II and New Haven lines are the two you’ll most commonly see in Riverside homes built or remodeled between the late 1990s and the mid-2010s. The Bryn Mawr II uses a block-and-tackle balance system in its double-hung windows, while the New Haven series went with a spiral balance. They are not interchangeable. That’s the single biggest compatibility gotcha we run into – someone buys a set of balances online that “fit CertainTeed windows,” and they’re for the wrong series entirely.

Here’s how you identify what you have. Open the sash and look at the side of the frame. You’ll typically find a silver or white sticker with a manufacturing code and sometimes the series name printed on it. If the sticker is long gone, measure the visible glass width to the nearest inch and note whether the window tilts in for cleaning or not. That tilt feature is another Bryn Mawr II tell. For doors, CertainTeed offered the New Haven sliding patio door line, and the roller assemblies on those are specific to the door’s weight rating. We match parts to the actual unit every time by pulling the sash or door panel and checking the hardware that’s still in place. Whenever possible we source OEM CertainTeed hardware. Where OEM parts are discontinued – which happens more with the New Haven line than Bryn Mawr II – we use aftermarket equivalents that match the original spec, and we tell you which one we’re quoting before you pay a dime.

Signs Your CertainTeed Windows & Doors Are Failing

  • The window won’t stay open. This is the classic dead balance. Over years of heat and dry Riverside air, the internal springs or cords lose tension, and the sash drops. It’s not a structural problem, but it makes the window nearly useless and can be a pinched-finger hazard for kids.
  • The lock won’t throw. Vinyl window frames shift slightly over time, especially on the west-facing walls that take the full force of a Riverside summer. A lock that worked five years ago may now be a sixteenth of an inch out of alignment. Sometimes the striker just needs shimming; sometimes the lock assembly itself is worn and needs replacing.
  • The sliding door drags or grinds. The rollers under a New Haven patio door are nylon wheels on steel axles. After enough sun and dust, those wheels flatten on one side and the door rides rough or gets stuck. Riverside’s dry, dusty summers accelerate that wear.
  • Drafts around the sash even when closed. The weatherstripping on CertainTeed vinyl windows is a compressible fin seal. It hardens over 10 to 15 years and stops springing back, leaving gaps you can feel on a cold winter night or a hot afternoon when the AC is on.
  • Fog between the glass panes. This one is not a part swap. It means the insulated glass unit’s seal has failed and the window itself needs replacing or reglazing. In Riverside that failure tends to show up first on south-facing windows that get the hardest UV exposure.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For the Riverside market, a full window replacement runs $4,500 – $15,000 depending on how many windows are being replaced, what glass package you choose, and whether the frames themselves need work. Individual hardware repairs – balances, locks, roller assemblies, weatherstripping – typically fall between $75 and $400 per window or door. What drives the price up: second-story window access, hard-to-reach door panels, and any frame damage that surfaces once we pull the sash. What keeps it down: multiple windows done in one trip, standard-size units, and straightforward hardware swaps.

Every parts repair or replacement we do comes with the same written price up front that you’d get on a full remodel. You see the part cost, the labor, and the total before we start – that’s how The Kingswell Way has run since 2004. Our work also carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That includes a free second visit, no service-call fee, no re-inspection fee.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect a few things yourself before picking up the phone. Check whether the lock’s mounting screws have loosened. Check if the bottom of the sash is sitting level in the frame. Brush out the door track and see if that improves the slide. What we’d steer you away from is disassembling a tilt-in sash to replace balances, or pulling a patio door panel off its track. The balance system holds real tension, and a heavy glass door panel is a two-person job even with the right tools. On vinyl frames, it’s also easy to crack the extrusion by prying in the wrong spot, and that turns a $150 repair into a full replacement. If you take the sash out and can’t get it back in, you’ve also got an open hole in your house. We’d rather you call us at (341) 895-1170 before it gets to that point. We’ll tell you what you’ve got, what it needs, and what it costs – no charge for the conversation.
