Tamko Kitchen Remodeling: The Riverside Owner’s Guide
If you have a Tamko product in your kitchen and something’s failed, we can help. A full kitchen remodel in Riverside with Tamko-compatible materials typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop choice, and whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical. Most homeowners discover a problem the same way: a drawer front pulls loose, a cabinet box starts to sag under the weight of dishes, or a laminate edge peels back after a few Southern California summers of dry heat and hard water.
We’re not the Tamko factory, and we’re not affiliated with Tamko. We’re Penhallow Remodeling Riverside, an independent contractor that installs and replaces Tamko-compatible kitchen components every week in this market. Trevor Nash runs the crew, and we’ve torn apart enough kitchens across Riverside to know exactly what fails first and what it takes to fix it right.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko makes a range of kitchen-related building products, but in Riverside kitchens we most often see their laminate countertops, backsplash panels, and cabinet-adjacent trim systems. If you’re holding a failed part right now, grab the model number. Tamko stamps it on the underside of counter slabs, on the back edge of backsplash panels, and inside cabinet doors on a white sticker. Look for a series prefix followed by a two or three digit number: examples include the EverStar and Proline laminate lines, though Tamko’s catalog shifts by region and year.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha that catches Riverside owners off guard: Tamko’s older laminate colors (pre-2018) were manufactured in slightly different thicknesses than current stock. Pre-2018 slabs commonly measure 5/8 inch at the finished edge, while newer runs come in at 3/4 inch. If you’re replacing one section of counter, not the whole run, that 1/8 inch difference will show at the seam line no matter how well it’s set. We flag this on every partial counter job because a color match alone won’t save you from a visible step.
When a replacement is needed, you’ve got two honest paths: OEM Tamko parts, which preserve the exact factory color and grain pattern, or quality aftermarket equivalents from cabinet and counter material suppliers we already work with. For full kitchen remodels, many Riverside homeowners switch to Cambria or Silestone surfaces at this point, because the aftermarket options carry longer warranties and hold up better to hard water spotting. For a patch or partial replacement, OEM is the right call.

Signs Your Tamko Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Peeling or lifting laminate edges near the sink. This happens when water gets under the edge seal and breaks down the adhesive. Riverside’s hard water accelerates it. Once the edge peels, the substrate underneath starts swelling within weeks.
- Bubbled or blistered counter surface near heat sources. The adhesive layer under laminate breaks down from repeated heat exposure, like a slow cooker parked on the same spot. Once it bubbles, the surface won’t lie flat again.
- Stained or cloudy backsplash panels behind the range. Tamko’s older backsplash panels are thin enough that repeated steam and grease penetrate the top coating. The cloudiness isn’t on top of the surface, it’s in it. Polishing won’t bring it back.
- Sagging cabinet boxes under heavy dish loads. Corner cabinet boxes take the most strain in Inland Empire kitchens that run hot and dry in summer. If a box is sagging more than 1/8 inch across the opening, the bracket or the box itself has failed.
- Loose or stripped hinge screws on frequent-use doors. Riverside’s dry air shrinks cabinet frames over time, and the screw holes oval out. This is the most common issue we see, and the easiest one to fix early if you catch it before the door pulls free.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Riverside, a full kitchen remodel runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed. Smaller partial repairs and component replacements sit lower. Here’s what the line items look like on a typical quote:
- Cabinet installation: $4,000 – $13,000, depending on cabinet line and linear feet. We pull KraftMaid and Wellborn boxes when the whole run comes out, because their warranty language is clear and they hold square through Riverside’s temperature swings.
- Countertop installation: $2,000 – $6,500, covering laminate, quartz, or solid surface options including Cambria and Silestone lines.
- Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500, depending on material and square footage.
- Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000, whether you’re building new or replacing a failing island.
Every quote includes the part, labor, demo of the old material, haul-away, and a written guarantee on the work. The price we hand you before we start is the price on the invoice. If we find something behind the walls that changes the scope, we stop and show you the number before we spend another dollar.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the inspection part yourself. Check underneath the counter edge for water marks, run a hand along cabinet bottoms for swelling, and test every hinge on every door. That tells us a lot before we even show up. What you shouldn’t do is pull a counter slab yourself. The laminate is glued to a substrate that’s brittle at the corners, and a slab that drops during removal takes the cabinet faces with it. We’ve also seen homeowners attempt a partial counter patch only to discover the thickness mismatch we mentioned above, after the seam is already visible and the cost is now a full run instead of a section.
If the damage is a single hinge or a loose bracket, we can usually fix it in one visit. If the box is compromised or the counter has delaminated, it’s a replacement. Call us at (341) 895-1170 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you straight whether it’s a repair or a replacement, and what each one costs.
FAQs

Expect 10 to 18 years from a Tamko laminate counter in Riverside before edges peel or seams open, with pre-2018 runs at the lower end of that range due to the thinner edge profile. Proximity to a south-facing window shortens the life because UV degrades the top coat. Call (341) 895-1170 for a free in-home assessment if yours is showing age.
If the panel is stained or cloudy through the coating, it needs replacement, not repair. Surface polishing won’t restore it. If the panel itself is intact but has separated from the wall at the seams, we can re-seat and reseal it in most cases. Call us and describe what you’re seeing, and we’ll tell you which path applies before you spend anything.
A full Riverside kitchen remodel with cabinet removal, counter replacement, and backsplash installation runs 3 to 6 weeks from demo day to final walkthrough, depending on cabinet lead time. A single-counter replacement or a cabinet box swap is typically one to two days on site. We’ll give you a written timeline with your written price, and we show up in the window we put on that page.
We keep common cabinet brackets, hinge hardware, edge banding, and sealants on the truck, because those are the frequent-use replacements in Riverside homes. Full counter slabs and backsplash panels we order to spec, which usually lands in our shop within 7 to 10 business days. If you need a color sample book to match an existing Tamko surface, we bring it to the estimate.
