CGI Windows & Doors: The Riverside Owner’s Guide
If you have a CGI window or door that’s binding, leaking air, or showing a broken balance or roller, we can match the part to your model and install it. Most CGI-compatible parts and hardware swaps in Riverside run $180 – $650 installed for a single unit, and if the part is on our truck, we’re usually in and out the same visit. Owners typically discover the problem one of two ways: the window suddenly got heavy and won’t stay up, or the door started dragging and leaving a mark on the threshold. Either way, it’s not a full replacement situation in most cases, and you shouldn’t let someone sell you one until the part itself has been looked at.
A note up front: Penhallow Remodeling Riverside is an independent contractor, not a CGI dealer or affiliated with the company. That means we can tell you straight whether an OEM part or a quality equivalent is the better spend, because we don’t have a CGI sales quota to hit.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI builds impact-rated and non-impact windows and doors under a few different product lines, and the parts are not all interchangeable. The most common lines we see in Riverside homes are the Estate Collection, the Sentinel series, and the Tropic series, which shows up a lot in newer developments around Mission Grove and Orangecrest. The fastest way to identify your unit is the white or silver label on the inside of the frame, usually at the top of the sash or on the door edge. You’re looking for a serial number, a product code, and sometimes a date code.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into at least twice a month: CGI has changed balance and roller specifications between manufacturing years, and a balance from a 2012 Estate window will not seat properly in a 2019 one, even when both windows look identical from the outside. Measuring the sash weight and the channel width matters more than matching the series name. On the OEM versus aftermarket question, we stock both. For high-tension parts and weather seals, OEM is usually the smarter spend because the tolerances are tighter. For rollers, locking mechanisms, and handles, a quality aftermarket part often matches or beats OEM at 30 – 40% less. Given Riverside’s dry heat and the fine dust that blows through in the fall, rollers and nylon guides in unmaintained tracks are the first things to wear out.

Signs Your CGI Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window drops when you let go or is hard to lift. The balance system has lost tension or a balance shoe has snapped inside the track. This is the most common CGI service call we get in Riverside, especially in homes where windows face full afternoon sun.
- Door drags on the threshold or leaves a metal shaving on the track. A roller has flattened or the bottom track has bent slightly from slab movement. Riverside soil expands and contracts with irrigation and dry spells, and doors on concrete slabs are the first to show it.
- You feel a draft around the sash or door edge even when it’s fully closed. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn, or the sash has settled out of square. This is usually a seal replacement, not a glass replacement.
- Lock or handle turns but won’t fully throw or catch. The actuator inside the lock body has worn or the strike plate has shifted a fraction out of alignment. On CGI multi-point locks, a single worn internal spring can stop the whole mechanism.
- Window sash sits visibly crooked in the frame. One side dropped off its guide, or the pivot bar has pulled loose. Continuing to force it open will score the track and turn a $200 repair into a full sash replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a single CGI window, part replacement in Riverside typically runs $180 – $380 installed, depending on whether it’s a balance, pivot bar, or lock. For a sliding door, rollers and track adjustment run $220 – $450, and a multi-point lock replacement runs $280 – $650. What drives the cost up is the complexity of the mechanism (multi-point locks have more components), the need to match an odd-size or obsolete part, and whether we need to order rather than pull from stock.
Every one of these repairs comes with a written price before we touch the window, so the number you approve is the number on the invoice. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies: if the part fails or the same symptom comes back within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. If that second visit reveals a different underlying problem, we’ll tell you what it is, write you a new price, and you decide. No surprise charges, no service fee on the callback while you’re still inside the guarantee window.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things are worth checking yourself. Cleaning tracks, clearing drainage channels, tightening a loose handle with a screwdriver, and re-seating a drop-in weatherstrip are all fair game. Those fix more problems than you’d expect in a dry, dusty climate like Riverside’s.
The line we’d draw is anything with tension or glass. Window balances sit under high spring tension, and a slipped spring can break a finger or send a part flying. Impact-rated units are heavier than they look, and a sash that drops while you’re working on it is a genuine hazard. If the window is heavy, crooked, or won’t move with normal pressure, stop and call us. Give you a number before we pick up a tool, that’s just how this works. Call (341) 895-1170 and we’ll set a time that works.
FAQs

In Riverside’s climate, you should plan on balances and rollers lasting 10 – 15 years, locks 15 – 20, and structural frames 30+ with basic cleaning. The single biggest killer of hardware here is dust in the tracks, not water or rust, so annual track cleaning is the best thing you can do.
Some can, and we’re honest about it. A wound balance can sometimes be re-tensioned, and a multi-point lock can often be adjusted rather than swapped. If a repair will buy you two years instead of ten, we’ll tell you that before we charge you for the longer fix. Call (341) 895-1170 and we can walk through what you’re seeing.
Most single-part replacements take 45 to 90 minutes on site. If the part is on the truck, we’ll do it in that first visit. If we need to order a specific balance or lock body, it’s usually 3 – 7 business days to get the part in, then one more short visit.
We stock both, and we’ll show you the difference in price and what each gets you before we order anything. For things like rollers and handles, a quality aftermarket part is often the better deal. For tension components and weatherseals, we’ll usually recommend CGI’s own. Beyond CGI, we also keep trade-brand parts and materials on hand for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone projects.
