CGI Driveway & Pavers: The Riverside Owner’s Guide

CGI driveway and paver products are built for California’s sun, but driveways in Riverside take a beating from summer heat, hard water, and clay soils that shift seasonally. We stock and install CGI-compatible pavers and driveway materials, with most paver driveway installations in Riverside running $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, base depth, and paver style. Homeowners usually find us after a paver has cracked under a parked truck, a border course has come loose, or the sand joints between pavers have washed out completely after winter rains. The good news: this is repairable, matchable, and we keep the common CGI profiles on hand so you’re not waiting on a special order.

Penhallow Remodeling Riverside is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with CGI, but we install and replace their paver and driveway product lines regularly, and we know which profiles, colors, and thicknesses hold up in Riverside’s climate.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI produces interlocking concrete pavers in a few core thicknesses for residential use: 60mm pavers for patios and walkways, 80mm pavers for driveways, and 100mm units for heavy-vehicle or commercial applications. If your Riverside driveway was built in the last 15 to 20 years, the pavers are most likely the 80mm range, and the style line will be stamped on the pallet sticker from the original install or sometimes embossed on the underside of a loose paver. Look for the CGI name and a mold code; that code tells us the exact series. One compatibility gotcha we run into repeatedly in Riverside: early-generation CGI pavers have a slightly different chamfer (the beveled edge around the top of the paver) than current production, so a row of new pavers laid next to original ones can look visibly different even when the color name is the same. When that happens, we’ll talk through whether a full-blend approach, pulling pavers from a less-visible area and using new stock in the main field, makes more sense than a patch.

For most Riverside homeowners, OEM pavers are the right call when matching is the priority. Quality aftermarket pavers work for full replacements, but for isolated repairs, the color and texture variance gets noticeable fast. We’ll show you samples in daylight, not from a brochure, before we commit to anything.

Signs Your CGI Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Sand joints washing out after rain. You’ll see thin channels between pavers where polymeric sand has eroded. If left alone, paver edges start chipping against each other, and the problem accelerates in Riverside’s winter rain-and-heat cycle. The fix is re-sanding and re-compacting, but only after any base settlement is addressed.
  • Paver cracking under a parked vehicle. A single crack, usually radiating from a corner, typically means the base under that spot settled or a void formed beneath the paver. We see this most often in Riverside’s Arlington neighborhood, where older clay-heavy soils shift more than people expect. A patch without fixing the base means you’ll be replacing that same paver again next year.
  • Border course separating from the field. The edge restraint, a plastic or concrete strip that holds everything in place, has likely failed or was never installed correctly. Once the border walks away from the field, the entire edge of the driveway is at risk of spreading.
  • Pavers rocking or shifting underfoot. A paver that moves when you step on it means the base layer underneath has lost compaction. In Riverside, this can happen from over-saturation during heavy rain or from tree roots that have worked their way under the pad.
  • Color fading across the whole surface. CGI pavers are color-fast, but Riverside’s UV exposure over a decade or more will take the surface down to the underlying concrete tone. It’s cosmetic rather than structural, but if it bothers you, the honest answer is that a full replacement is the only real fix. Sealers can help short-term, but they need reapplication regularly in our climate.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A built-in window seat in a bay window

For a full paver driveway replacement in Riverside, plan on $7,000 to $18,000. The range comes down to square footage, whether we’re pulling and hauling old concrete or asphalt first, how deep the base prep goes, and which CGI paver series you choose. A paver patio runs $3,500 to $11,000 for the same reasons, with smaller square footages keeping most patios in that lower band.

We give you a written price before any work starts, and that number includes labor, materials, base prep, joint sand, and cleanup. You’ll know what it costs before we pick up a tool. Every job gets our written workmanship warranty, and if something fails because of our work, we come back and fix it at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it fails because of something we did, you’re not paying for the second trip, either. That’s the standard, in writing, every time.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. Run a hose over a suspicious area and see if water pools where it didn’t before. Take a photo of the mold code on the underside of a loose paver. Measure the paver thickness with a tape measure. Those three details help us match your CGI product without a site visit.

Where DIY goes wrong is when the base is the problem, not the paver. Pulling up pavers to investigate without understanding the base layer means you’ll put everything back, have it look fine for a season, and then watch the same crack come back. Driveway pavers weigh more than people expect, base repair needs compacted layers at the right moisture level, and re-installing a border course so it actually holds requires knowing what the soil underneath is doing. At that point, call us at (341) 895-1170 and we’ll come look. The estimate is free, and the number we give you is the number on the invoice, not a starting point.
