Boral Driveway & Pavers: The Riverside Owner’s Guide

Boral driveway and paver replacement in Riverside typically runs $7,000 to $18,000 for a full paver driveway installation, while isolated paver replacement, edge repair, and re-leveling work usually falls between $1,200 and $4,500 depending on how many pavers have shifted or cracked. We stock common Boral-compatible paver sizes and colors on our trucks, and we can have less common profiles from our supplier within two to three days. Most Riverside homeowners discover the problem the same way: a paver that dips underfoot after rain, a crack that spreads across three or four units, or an edge row that’s started pulling away from the driveway border.

If you’re holding a cracked Boral paver in your hand and trying to match it, you already know the frustration. The color on the new one never quite matches the sun-faded ones around it. We’ll get to that. First, let’s talk about what you actually have and what it costs to fix it right.

Which Boral Models This Applies To

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

Boral’s paver lines show up under a few names depending on when your driveway was installed. The big three we see in Riverside are Boral Plaza, Boral Stone, and Boral Clay Paver lines, plus older installations that were sold under the Boral Pavers name before the company restructured its product catalog. Each line has different dimensions, and that’s the first gotcha. A Boral Plaza paver is not interchangeable with a Boral Stone paver even when the color name is identical. They’re different thicknesses, different edge profiles, and slightly different face textures.

Here’s how to identify what you have: flip over a paver from an inconspicuous corner and look for the manufacturer stamp, usually a small embossed name on the bottom face. If the stamp is gone, measure the paver’s thickness with a tape measure. Plaza units are typically 60mm. Stone units run closer to 50mm. That 10mm difference sounds small, but it changes how the base depth is calculated, and laying a 50mm paver where a 60mm paver came out will leave you with a visible dip and a paver that rocks under a car tire.

As for OEM versus aftermarket: Boral no longer manufactures pavers under its own name in the US market, so most “Boral” pavers being sold today are either remaining stock from distributors or quality-compatible units made to the same dimensional specs. We source from distributor networks that still carry genuine Boral profiles, and we’ll tell you plainly when a compatible alternative is the better buy. We don’t pass off any paver as OEM when it isn’t.

One more Riverside-specific note: if your Boral driveway was installed before 2005, there’s a good chance it’s sitting on a sand-set base with no concrete collar. That matters because paver failure in those installations is almost always a base problem, not a paver problem. We’ll get into that below.

Signs Your Boral Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Localized dips or low spots that hold water after rain. This is the number one call we get in Riverside, and it’s nearly always a base failure, not a bad paver. Years of irrigation overspray or a downspout that dumps water at the driveway edge washes the sand and fines out from under the pavers. The pavers sink into the void. Replacing just the sunken pavers without fixing the base means you’ll be doing it again in eighteen months.
  • Spider-web cracking across a single paver or a tight cluster. A single cracked Boral paver is often a manufacturing or impact issue. A cluster of cracked pavers in one spot means that area is carrying a load it wasn’t designed for, usually because the base has compacted unevenly or a tree root is pushing up from below.
  • Edge rows separating from the driveway border. Riverside’s freeze-thaw cycle is mild compared to the mountains, but our hot summers expand pavers enough that edge restraint matters. Once the plastic edge restraint snaps or pulls free, the outer course starts drifting outward. You’ll see a widening gap between the border and the first row of pavers.
  • Efflorescence that won’t go away. That white, chalky haze on Boral pavers is efflorescence, mineral salts wicking up through the paver. A little is normal in the first year. A lot that keeps coming back usually means water is moving through the base and carrying minerals with it. It’s a drainage clue, not just a cosmetic problem.
  • Sand washing out of the joints after every rain. If you can see joint sand disappearing and joints opening up, the paver system is losing its interlock. In Riverside’s occasional heavy downpours, this accelerates fast. Open joints let water into the base, which starts the whole failure cycle over again.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled living room with built-in shelves around the fireplace

For a full Boral driveway replacement in Riverside, plan on $7,000 to $18,000 installed. That range is broad because the two biggest cost drivers are square footage and what we find when we pull the old pavers up. A 400-square-foot driveway on a solid existing base sits at the low end. A 900-square-foot driveway that needs a new 6-inch compacted base, a concrete edge collar, and drainage corrections will land at the high end.

Localized repair work breaks down more tightly. Replacing a single cracked paver runs $60 to $150 including the paver, color matching, and our trip. Re-leveling a sunken area of 20 to 40 square feet, including base compaction and re-sanding, runs $800 to $2,200. Edge repair with a new concrete restraint runs $1,500 to $3,500 depending on the linear footage involved.

Every quote we give is a line-item, written price before work starts. The paver cost, the base material, the labor hours, the haul-away for the old material, all of it in writing. The number on day one is the number on the invoice, and the work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If that patch settles or that edge pulls free again inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not a verbal assurance. It’s written into every job.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing one Boral paver is within reach for a patient homeowner. You pry out the broken unit with two flathead screwdrivers, clean the sand from the cavity, set the new paver, and sweep polymeric sand into the joints. The tricky part is color match and bedding. If the replacement paver sits 2mm proud or 2mm low, you’ll catch it with your shoe every time you walk past it, and car tires will eventually crack the high edge. The bigger danger of DIY is what you can’t see: if the paver failed because the base is washing out, replacing the paver is just putting a bandage over the actual problem.

If your issue is a sunken section, a separated edge, or multiple cracked pavers, that’s not a swap job. That’s a base repair, and doing it wrong means redoing it in a year at double the cost. We’re happy to talk through what you’re seeing and tell you honestly whether it’s a simple paver swap you can handle or a base problem that needs a crew. Call (341) 895-1170 and we’ll give you a straight answer before you spend a dollar. Give you a number before we pick up a tool, that’s just how this works.
