Sakrete Fence Installation: The Riverside Owner’s Guide

We install Sakrete-based fence systems throughout Riverside, and the typical installed price lands between $3,500 and $9,000 depending on fence length, post spacing, soil conditions, and whether we’re setting posts in fresh Sakrete concrete or repairing posts that have shifted in older pours. Most homeowners discover a problem the same way: a gate that drags, a post that leans after a rain, or concrete that’s cracked away from the post base and left the whole section wobbling. The good news is that a Sakrete fence issue is almost always fixable without tearing out the entire fence line.

We’re an independent Riverside contractor, not affiliated with Sakrete. But we work with their products regularly, and we know exactly how they behave in this soil.

Which Sakrete Models This Applies To

Sakrete makes a few different concrete products that show up in fence work, and the fix depends on which one you used. The two we see most in Riverside backyards are Sakrete High-Strength Concrete Mix (the standard 4,000 PSI bagged mix most homeowners grab at the hardware store) and Sakrete Fast-Setting Concrete Mix (the one you pour dry into the hole and add water, no mixing required). There’s also Sakrete Fence Post Mix, which is formulated specifically for posts and sets up faster than general-purpose concrete.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Fast-Setting and Fence Post Mix are not interchangeable for every situation. Fast-Setting works fine for line posts in well-drained soil, but in Riverside’s clay-heavy areas near Arlington and the La Sierra foothills, we’ve found the standard High-Strength mix holds up better because it cures more slowly and resists the shrink-swell cycle that clay goes through every wet-dry season. If your original installer used Fast-Setting in clay and your posts are now leaning, the concrete itself may be fine; the soil around it is the problem, and the repair often means digging a wider footing and re-pouring with a mix better suited to expansive soil.

Signs Your Sakrete Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean after winter rains. Riverside’s clay soil expands when wet and contracts when dry. Concrete set in a hole that’s too narrow or too shallow loses its grip, and the post starts tilting toward the low side of your yard.
  • Cracks radiating from the post base. This usually means the concrete was mixed too wet or too dry on pour day. A too-wet mix shrinks as it cures; a too-dry mix never fully bonds around the post.
  • Gate sag or drag. A gate post set in Sakrete that’s failing will shift enough to knock the gate out of alignment. You’ll notice it at the latch first, then the hinge side starts grinding.
  • Visible gap between concrete and post. You can actually see daylight between the post and the concrete collar. Water gets in, sits against the wood or metal, and accelerates rot or corrosion.
  • Concrete collar crumbling at the surface. In Riverside’s summer heat, surface-level spalling happens when the top of the pour dried too fast and never reached full strength. It’s mostly cosmetic, but it’s also where water gets in and starts the freeze-thaw cycle that widens cracks.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

A single post reset in Riverside typically runs $250 to $600 depending on whether we’re digging out the old concrete or starting fresh, how deep the footing needs to go, and whether the post itself can be reused. A full fence installation using Sakrete products across a standard 50 to 100 linear foot run lands between $3,500 and $9,000. The biggest cost drivers are fence height, post spacing (6-foot spacing uses fewer posts than 8-foot spacing but catches more wind), access to the hole (hand-digging in tight side yards costs more than a machine in an open yard), and whether we’re removing an old concrete footing or pouring fresh.

What’s included: the concrete, the posts, hardware, disposal of the old footing if needed, and a written price before we pick up a single tool. You get a written guarantee on the work. If a post shifts inside the first year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s in writing on every job.

DIY or Call Us?

You can check a few things yourself. Is the post actually moving, or is the fence panel just loose? Wiggle the post at the top while watching the concrete at the base. If the concrete moves with the post, the whole footing is loose. If the post flexes but the concrete stays put, you’ve got a post-to-concrete bond problem, not a footing problem. That distinction tells you a lot about what the repair will cost.

Where DIY goes wrong on Sakrete fence work is almost always the same two things: the hole isn’t dug wide enough for Riverside’s clay soil, or the mix ratio is off. A hole that’s too narrow means the concrete collar is thin and cracks under lateral load. Mix water too high and you lose compressive strength; too low and the concrete never fully wraps the post. We’ve pulled plenty of homeowner-set posts out of the ground that looked fine until the first big wind. If you want it done once, call us at (341) 895-1170 and we’ll come look at it. Give you a number before we pick up a tool, that’s just how this works.
