Toto Bathroom Remodeling: The Riverside Owner’s Guide
A full Toto bathroom remodel in Riverside typically runs $9,000 – $28,000 installed, depending on whether you’re refreshing a guest bath or gutting a master. We stock Toto-compatible trim, valves, and mounting hardware, and our crew installs Toto fixtures on most bathroom remodels we take on. Most Riverside homeowners call us after a decade-old Toto toilet starts ghost-flushing, a Toto shower valve stops holding temperature, or the finish on a Toto faucet has pitted from years of hard water. They usually know the brand they want. What they don’t know is which parts will actually fit their existing rough-in.
Here’s the quick version: Toto makes excellent fixtures, but their parts are not universal. Get the model number, call a remodeler who works with Toto weekly, and you’ll save yourself a second trip to the supply house and a lot of standing water.
Which Toto Models This Applies To

Toto splits its bathroom lineup into a few families, and the part compatibility runs along those lines. The Drake and Drake II toilets share a 12-inch rough-in and use the same fill valve assembly, but the Drake II’s tornado flush needs the original rim gasket or you’ll get a weak, sputtering flush. The Washlet bidet seats (C100, C200, C500, S550) fit elongated Toto bowls, but the mounting bracket spacing changed between generations. An older C100 bracket will not line up with a current S550 without an adapter plate.
The Neorest integrated toilets are a different animal entirely. We don’t recommend aftermarket anything on those. The flush solenoid, the heater element, the control board: if it isn’t Toto OEM, you’re inviting a slow failure that costs more than the original part. On the faucet and valve side, Toto’s Legato and Clayton lines use a proprietary ceramic cartridge that is not interchangeable with Delta or Kohler even though the handles look similar. We’ve seen homeowners buy a $40 “universal” cartridge online and strip the valve body trying to install it. That turns a $120 repair into an $800 wall opening.
Our advice on Toto parts specifically: OEM for anything inside the tank, inside the wall, or wired to a circuit board. Aftermarket is fine for trip levers, seat hinges, and escutcheon plates. The cost difference on aesthetic parts is small and the downside is zero. The cost difference on internal parts is also small, but the downside is a bathroom out of service for a week.

Signs Your Toto Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Ghost flushing (toilet cycles every 20 – 30 minutes). This is the flapper or fill valve seal degrading. In Riverside’s hard water, mineral scale builds on the flush valve seat and the flapper can’t seal. You hear the refill kick on, look over, and nobody touched it. The fix is usually a Toto OEM flapper and a descale of the seat, not a new toilet.
- Shower temperature drifts while you’re in it. The pressure balance cartridge in the valve has worn rings. Hard water accelerates this considerably in Riverside. If you’re constantly nudging the handle to hold a temperature, the cartridge is done. It’s a parts fix, not a full valve replacement, if you catch it before the valve body corrodes.
- Washlet seat doesn’t heat or the wand won’t extend. Mineral buildup on the heating element or a dead pump. Riverside water passes through the inline filter first, but once that filter saturates, everything downstream starts scaling. We replace the filter and the element as a pair, otherwise you’re redoing the job in six months.
- Faucet finish pitting or flaking on the spout. This is mostly cosmetic until it isn’t. Once the chrome or nickel breaches, water gets underneath the plating and the brass begins to corrode. On Toto’s Clayton line, the spout threads are fine and you can replace the spout alone. On the Legato, the finish failure usually means the whole faucet goes.
- Sporadic or weak flush even after cleaning the jet holes. The rim jet gasket inside the bowl is delaminating. The Drake II and Ultramax use a molded rubber rim seal that hardens over time. You can clean the visible jet holes all day and it won’t help. That gasket is a $30 OEM part and about 40 minutes of labor.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Toto-specific bathroom remodel in Riverside, here’s the range we quote most often:
- Fixture-level refresh (new Toto toilet, faucet, shower trim, minor tile patch): $3,000 – $7,000
- Full small bathroom remodel with new Toto fixtures and mid-range finishes: $9,000 – $16,000
- Master bathroom remodel with Toto Neorest or Washlet, curbless shower, and custom tile: $18,000 – $28,000
What drives the spread is rarely the fixture itself. It’s the age of the plumbing behind the wall. A 1960s Arlington neighborhood home with galvanized supply lines will need more prep work than a 2005 tract home with PEX. Demo will tell us more than any walk-through can. That’s why every job gets a written price before we start, not after the wall comes open. The number we hand you is the number on the invoice. If we find something unexpected in demo, we stop, show you, and write a change order before proceeding. No surprises at the end.
Every Toto remodel we install includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the fixture or our work fails inside that year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That includes a free second visit; no service call, no re-inspection fee. The manufacturers’ warranty on the Toto product runs alongside ours, so you’re covered twice.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a flapper, a fill valve, or a seat hinge: a homeowner with basic tools and a little patience can do those. Turn the water off at the stop first. If the stop itself is stuck or corroded, stop right there. That’s a supply line job and Riverside homes with hard water have seized stops all the time. Forcing one snap risks flooding the bathroom.
Anything inside the wall, anything wired to a circuit board, or any Toto valve work: call us. A pressure balance cartridge swap looks simple on YouTube, but the retaining clip is under tension and the valve body is recessed. If you crack the valve body, you’re tearing out tile. Same goes for the Neorest line. The control boards are sensitive and one wrong connection fries the unit. Trevor Nash has watched homeowners turn a $200 parts swap into a $1,400 valve replacement more times than he cares to count. Call (341) 895-1170 and we’ll quote the repair honestly. Give you a number before we pick up a tool, that’s just how this works.
FAQs

Toto toilets and valves typically last 15 – 20 years in Riverside with hard water maintenance, though the inlet screens and fill valve seals usually need replacing every 4 – 6 years due to mineral scale. A Washlet seat averages 8 – 12 years before the heating element or pump fails. Regular descaling extends all of those numbers. Call (341) 895-1170 if you want us to assess the specific fixtures in your home.
Yes, in most cases. Flappers, fill valves, cartridges, rim gaskets, and Washlet filters are all replaceable OEM parts that restore full function for a fraction of the fixture cost. The exception is a corroded valve body or a Neorest control board failure, where the part cost approaches the cost of a new unit and replacement makes more sense. We’ll show you the numbers for both options before you choose.
A fixture-level refresh takes one to two days. A full bathroom remodel with demolition, plumbing moves, tile, and new Toto fixtures runs one to three weeks depending on the scope and whether the tile work includes custom layouts. We give you a defined arrival window before the job starts and our crew keeps the site clean throughout. You’ll know at the outset exactly how long the job will run.
We keep the most common Toto OEM parts on the truck: Drake and Drake II flappers, fill valve assemblies, pressure balance cartridges, Washlet filters, and rim gaskets. Oddball parts for the Neorest or older Clayton models may need a day or two from our supplier in the Inland Empire. If we know your model number before we arrive, we’ll have the part with us. We also work with KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone countertops when your remodel goes beyond fixtures.
